Cleansed by fire, reborn through the love of our patrons. Like a phoenix, with a shtickle of cream cheese on the corner of it’s mighty beak and the odd poppy and sesame seed lodged beneath its razor sharp talons, we have risen from the smoke and water damage that would have destroyed us, to our solemn duty of serving North Portland with the finest and freshest bagel sandwiches, NJ style home-fried potatoes, fresh squeezed orange juice, house-butchered fruit, and strongly brewed, affordable drip coffee.
THANK YOU.
We are back, LITERALLY by your popular demand.
After the fire (which was extinguished in record-time by the consummate professionals at Portland Fire Bureau Station 26- a thousand thanks gentlemen) and the many other issues th fire created for our business, we were tempted to stay shut and move on.
We added bagels and fresh fruit and juice to the menu at our sister cart (Flavour Spot) and considered the task of rebuilding, restaffing, and reopening Bagel and Box. Doubt ruled the day.
And then the fellas at Western Meat (we’ve been operating out of their parking lot since April 2012) started asking when we were going to reopen. Their customers were asking. OUR customers were stopping in to ask THEM. Down the road at Flavour Spot it was the same story- customers asking daily when Bagel and Box would return. Then the emails started to come, asking for specific reopen dates, what menu items would again be available, if we could add even more of the Bagel and Box menu into the already packed Flavour Spot trailer.
A decision was made. We would rebuild and reopen, and if the customers came back, we would stay open, if not we would shut back down and move on.
We reopened, you came back. Thank you.
